Down to Earth Training - Katie Keeble, Go & See Microburary 2025-26

I travelled to Mumbles for 6 sessions over 6 days to learn about facilitating outdoors for Wellbeing and Health. The micro-grant Go and See project gave me vital support with travel costs.
I am developing an outdoor wellbeing programme with The Place, Newport, South Wales to be held on their outreach project Plot 4 community allotment, Coldra Road.
The training I received with Down to Earth is instrumental to the success of the project along with the connections I made to help curate, deliver and produce the programme. The learning I received and continue to receive, including coming on board with their Evaluation tool trial project (linked to Swansea University), is invaluable for me to be able to produce an annual outdoor programme of activities. The activities include on-going regular Sunday gatherings at Plot 4, and also an additional session of Wellness Wednesdays specifically for stroke survivors and their carers.
I participated in training with Down to Earth (Swansea/Mumbles) to enable me to curate, produce and facilitate a green outdoor wellbeing programme at Plot 4 community allotments, Coldra Road allotments, Newport South Wales.
The training helped me to understand requirements specifically related to outdoor delivery of wellbeing sessions, why it is important and how to best utilise the material to the needs of the participants. We learned how to design eco-friendly and sustainability-based practices which work together with nature and the natural environment for the participants’ fullest benefit in receiving the programme of activities. We also learned the health and safety requirements needed in the delivery of the programme, as well as how to evaluate and utilise current research for best practice results and support towards our aims and outcomes.

The legacy of this project includes the abilities, confidence and support I received and continue to receive from Down to Earth, including connections made with their Evaluation monitoring trial through Swansea University. The encouragement and mentorship from Down to Earth has been invaluable and made such a difference to the ways in which I approach delivering a project and curating a programme of outdoor creative wellbeing activities. I am so incredibly appreciative and grateful for everything and really look forward to the future with their support behind me as well. Thank you for the opportunity with the Micro grants helping towards my participation in learning more about the work I love to do.
