WAHWN anti-racism: September network meeting
Location: Online
Summary:
Following recent appalling acts of racism and violence witnessed across the UK, we have been reflecting on our response to racism as a sector-support organisation.
Content:
We invite our members to reach out to us if you would like any training or support to develop your anti-racism policies and procedures to ensure we work collectively with a zero-tolerance approach in our sector in Wales.
WAHWN places fairness, dignity and respect, equality and inclusion of all individuals at the heart of its organisation, both in relation to service delivery, employment of staff, volunteers, trustees, suppliers, professionals and the general public.
We are committed to being an anti-racist organisation. We recognise the reality of racial discrimination and its significant impact within our organisation and the arts and health sector we serve. As a result, we are committed to a zero-tolerance stance against racism, actively confronting and addressing it in all forms while continuously evaluating and improving our own processes, policies, procedures and behaviours to ensure equity and inclusion.
We are working to diversify the sector to ensure that global majority creative health practitioners are fairly represented, through our Stepping In programme and other initiatives.
The focus of our next Network Meeting will be on sharing some of the brilliant creative health work that is taking place in Wales with refugees and asylum-seekers.
We will hear from:
Helen Tower, Project Manager – Perthyn, Mental Health Foundation. Helen will share 2 projects that they have been running: ‘Perthyn’ in partnership with the City of Sanctuary UK, and their more recent Bridges to Belonging work. (You can read the Perthyn Evaluation here)
Laura Bradshaw, Oasis One World Choir. Laura will share information about their new project: Singing Walks, which is a partnership with Cardiff and Vale Action for Mental Health that will test the impact of Singing Walks on the wellbeing of people seeking sanctuary.
We hope you can join us. Register for free here.
