Opportunities in Arts in Health
The Question of Quality
Location: The Atrium, University of South Wales, Cardiff | Start Date: 26th February 2020
Do you want to be able to articulate, advocate for and improve the quality of your work? If you are working in the field of arts, health and wellbeing and want to develop a clearer understanding of what ‘excellent’ means in relation to the quality of your work, this workshop is for you.
Facilitated and taught by Jane Willis, Director of arts in health consultancy Willis Newson, we will explore what we mean by quality in the context of arts, health and wellbeing and why it is important. We will examine whether quality make a difference to the impacts and outcomes of a project and look at ways in which we might seek to embed and evidence quality in our work. By the end of the day, you will have developed a clear understanding of the quality indicators specific and relevant to your own work and will better understand how you can embed these in your practice. We will explore the conditions necessary to delivery high quality projects and look at how we can use a reflective approach to evaluation to ensure that we continue to learn, improve and develop. A pioneer of the arts and health field, Jane founded Vital Arts, the arts programme for Bart’s Health NHS Trust, in 1994. Since then, she has worked with more than 32 NHS Trusts and Health Boards, as well as with universities, galleries, museums and health leaders such as The Kings Fund and The Royal Society of Public Health to produce award-winning arts, health and wellbeing programmes. She is particularly interested in developing creative solutions to strategic health needs and in supporting skills development within the sector. Working with Professor Norma Daykin at the University of Tampere, Finland, she has contributed to improved evaluation practice within the sector through research programmes, training and resources including www.creativeandcredible.co.uk £70 organisations, £35 freelance practitioners https://engage.org/happenings/the-question-of-quality/
