January 2022 Call Out for Artists, Designers & Illustrators WHAT? A Commission to make a series of original work to enhance the patient areas of the Day Unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. WHY? The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Day Unit also acts as a Paediatric Day Unit, and they are in the process of making the environment more child friendly and have introduced some sensory activities and now wish to add some colourful and interactive artwork to the ward. HOW? We are looking for visual artists, designers and illustrators who are interested in the safari and ‘under the sea’ themes mentioned below. The final works will be printed onto vinyl, antimicrobial foam board or panels. The areas have been measured and alterations will be made to some areas to accommodate the artwork. WHERE? The department is in the Day Unit Floor 3 of the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. A site visit is not essential to create the work but is desirable to gain an understanding of place. A remote alternative can be arranged. WHEN? We would like the completed designs to be delivered digitally by 8th March in order to commission printing and installation by 31st March 2022. COMMISSION AWARD: £1000 for 4 main designs within a theme as described below - the fee is inclusive of any costs associated with designing the work. There is a separate budget for the production & manufacture of final work.
