Museums Inspiring Memories is a three-year partnership project between Amgueddfa Cymru and Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, exploring how we can use our museums and museum collections to improve the wellbeing of people affected by dementia. Since 2022 the Museums Inspiring Memories team have been working with people living with dementia, unpaid carers, carer sector staff, heritage sector colleagues and communities and organisations across Wales, focusing on four main pieces of work: • establishing a Dementia Voice in Heritage Group to help steer and shape the project • developing and delivering dementia awareness training sessions for heritage sector staff and volunteers • delivering a supportive package for unpaid carers/care sector staff in using museum resources with those they care for • creating a sustainable programme of activities for those affected by dementia, both at our museums and in the community For more information, please do have a look at our webpage: https://museum.wales/wellbeing/museums-inspiring-memories-working-for-dementia/ In this third phase of the project, we are developing the programme of activities for people affected by dementia at the seven Amgueddfa Cymru museums across Wales. Many of these activities will be delivered by in-house museum teams, but we are also looking for creatives to develop and deliver innovative and engaging sessions to enhance the programme. These should ideally be built around one or more of the Five Ways to Wellbeing, i.e. Connect, Take Notice, Be Active, Keep Learning. Give They should ideally involve the senses, and must relate to our museums or collections in some way. The more innovative and unusual, the better! We welcome initial expressions of interest from all creatives – writers, musicians, visual artists and so on. Fee and Timescale The fee in total is £500 – which includes session/workshop development and delivery at one of our seven museums. This fee is inclusive of all travel costs. The in-house activities programme will be launched formally during the summer of 2024, but we would welcome ideas for delivery outside this timescale. Please contact sharon.ford@museumwales.ac.uk for further details, or to send a 200-400 word expression of interest.
