Introduction

‘Reaching Further’ is a creative health project delivered by Inside Out Cymru across Gwent between October 2024 and April 2025. Working in partnership with community venues, residential settings and ABUHB, the project provided a programme of dementia-friendly art and music sessions for people living with dementia and their carers. Activities took place at venues including The Riverfront in Newport, Spring Gardens Residential Unit, Pwll-Y-Pant Village Hall, Cedar Parc Ward at Ysbyty’r Tri Chwm, and the Ebbw Vale Institute, extending the organisation’s reach into both new communities and clinical settings. Across the programme, 309 public attendances were recorded, alongside artist development sessions and partner engagement. Notably, 82% of participants and 64% of carers had not accessed any other dementia support groups in the previous 12 months, highlighting the project’s role in addressing a clear gap in accessible, creative provision.
