23/01/2025

I’d like to share some good news , we all need a something positive to lift us at the moment. Aimee’s Friday Art group, Kings Community Hall Prestatyn, North Wales are celebrating a 10th year milestone! A group that prides itself on community art for all and art for health & wellbeing!

On Friday 17th January Aimee’s Friday Art Group celebrated their 10th Year anniversary. A massive mile stone for any group! Prestatyn and Meliden’s Mayor and deputy Mayor came to support and celebrate with the 30 out of the 45 group members who attended group and some the town councillors, past P&M Mayor, local artists, Kim-inspire, Mel Cross-ginger pixie photographer and friends and family. The group celebrated by sharing heart warming stories, plenty of laughs and awards handed to members by Prestatyn and Meliden’s Mayor.

“I wanted to start an art group running on Fridays to get people together, create art and socialise. With a meeting with Steve & Pete-part of Artisans Collective we quickly embraced a shared vision.

On the 16th January 2015 the first ever Aimee’s Friday art group was held in Old Library Building The Artisans Collective, Prestatyn, Denbighshire North Wales. Now we are celebrating our 10th year! I feel incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the years and how the group has grown into what it has become today. I’m forever grateful for all the help and support myself and the group has received over this past decade. And can’t wait to see what else we can do, looking forward to new collaborations, exhibitions and so much more!”

From sessions the Old library to currently running sessions in Kings Community Hall Prestatyn, the group has had a few venue changes over the years including on-line sessions during Covid-Lockdowns/Restrictions.

The group has evolved massively over time. The aim is to bring people together, share ideas, techniques, socialise, make arts/crafts, have fun and enhance people’s lives through art for health and wellbeing.

Members’ ages range from 21-91. The group has 45 active members of which 17-25 people attend weekly. Approximately 1/3 of the members have been socially prescribed by their GP, Occupational therapist or other agencies including Kim-Inspire and British red cross.

The group is open to anyone regardless of artistic ability or experience. Many of the participants have found more formal art sessions elsewhere to be uninviting or costly. Many of the participants have commented they feel much freer to express themselves here than elsewhere. As the group’s main creative practitioner Aimee works hard to maintain a welcoming/relaxed atmosphere, ensuring members are comfortable and have fun!
